Formal Outfits | The Edit

With spring come weddings, proms, etc. Choosing an outfit for all this formal events can be quite hard and stressful so I thought I'd share a post talking about all the details a formal outfit has to have in order to be perfect for the occasion.

THE DRESS

The dress, or even a suit if you prefer, is the most important piece in every outfit. It will be the main focus of attention and the piece that will play the most important role in your overall look. There is no perfect dress for formal events; what I'd recommend is choosing one that looks great on you, that makes you feel comfortable and confident and that's easy to style and accessorize. Your dress choice can also vary depending on the occasion you are dressing for; in my case, I have a pretty casual wedding in June and I've bought a nice (over the knee length) dress as the wedding itself doesn't require a long dress.

THE SHOES

Finding the perfect shoes can be one of the most difficult parts of your outfit hunting. They need to be nice and need to compliment the dress beautifully. They also need to be comfortable; you'll be in these shoes for a long time and you don't want them to hurt your feet. If you want to wear heels but you are not good at them, go for shoes with a chunky heel and a bit of platform. You can also go for a nice pair of flats if you don't feel comfortable wearing heels. If you have that perfect pair of heels that you trust (in my case a pair of black stilettos) wear them to all your formal events, a nice shoe never goes out of style.

THE BAG

Not too big and not too small, that's how the perfect formal bag is. I know there are some really nice tiny bags out there, but sometimes they are not the most practical. Find a bag that will fit your essentials (such as your phone, your card holder and other things you might need) and that will compliment the dress beautifully. I'd also recommend you find one with a strap; clutches look really nice but you can get bored of them sometimes and you may need to wear them over your shoulder. If your dress and shoes are pretty simple, a statement bag could make your look shine.

THE JEWELLERY

This part can be totally different depending on the person. I personally like more minimal jewellery and that what I'd wear to a formal event; a nice pair of earring and a bracelet are my choices for the summer wedding I'm going to. However, if you like more statement jewellery go for it; it will add your personal touch to your outfit and will make it stand out over the others. Also, you don't have to spend a lot of money in jewellery, places like Asos and Parfois have a great selection at a great price point.

THE OTHERS

Your makeup and your body also play an important role in the overall look of your outfit. Choosing the right makeup can make your outfit even more special; don't go too natural or too dramatic, just wear something nice that will make you feel great. The condition of your body is also pretty important; make sure you shave, exfoliate and moisturize before the event. If you are really fair, a bit of self-tanner or a shimmering / tanning body oil could be your best friends (if you have any recommendations for really fair skin please let them in the comments bellow)…
